I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it,but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
-- Philippians 3:12-14
For the longest time, I was all about having no regrets in my life. A childish and prideful notion if I might add. I realize now that the "no regrets" attitude is wrong.
Having no regrets means that even for the times that you were not your best and you made the wrong decisions, you have no intention of being sorry or even wished that you could have done better. Yes...there were a lot of times that I regretted not being the best person I can be...and yes, I could have done better because I knew better.
What Paul is trying to encourage us is that there is always room for improvement. We did have our dark days but being with Jesus means that we have so much more to look forward to. When you journey with Him, you will find out that you have so much more to offer. Your past should not define you future, especially if your are looking forward to a future in heaven.
Dear Father, teach us to look forward to our future with You and help build Your Kingdom instead of focusing on the pain, hurt and sin of the past. We ask for healing for the wounds that have yet to heal and excitement for the journey ahead of us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
